The Quiet Book
By Deborah Underwood and Renata Liwska.
This book is an ALA notable book list story.
This story describes many different sorts of quiet that can be in a child’s life from first one awake in the morning to sound asleep quiet at the end of the day. The pictures follow some young animals and their families through the quiet spots of their day and communicate much of the meaning of the quiet times described. Considering how noisy the typical young child is, this exploration of quiet is a good book to share. Children can gain an appreciation of quiet, even if only for a short time. Reading this book made me relish the many tiny quiet places I find or create to keep my life livable.
